The two department stores of today are far removed from the original general drapery stores that were opened in 1925 by Arthur Banbury in Barnstaple and by Mr Eastmond at the turn of the century in Tiverton. They have both dramatically changed in size and appearance and now provide all the elements expected of a present-day department store.
